Twins earn rare series win over National League team

It’s been a strange season when it comes to the Minnesota Twins and the National League. The Twins took the series from the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday with a 4-2 win, but it only “improved” their record against the Senior Circuit to 18-30. And series wins were rare. In fact, the Twins usually came... Continue Reading »

Twins-Yankees? Do I even need to say?

The schedule Gods have not been kind to the Minnesota Twins to wind down the season. They lost series to the White Sox, Tigers and Guardians, including a 9-2 kick in the mouth from the Guards on Sunday, and then Gotham pulled into town Monday and did what the New York Yankees have been doing... What the doctor ordered: The Athletics

Despite a late-in-the-game rally, the Twins got exactly what they needed on Monday, a convincing 9-6 win over the Oakland/West Sacramento/Las Vegas A’s to snap a three-game losing streak. And every player got into the act with at least one hit. Leading the way were Byron Buxton and rookie Kaelen Culpepper. Buck had a 3-for-5... Continue Reading »

Twins win again. Can they do it?

The Twins won again on Tuesday, getting a 3-1 victory at home over the never-easy-to-beat Cleveland Guardians. That’s three wins in a row for Minnesota. They also are 7-3 in their last three games, two games under .500, three games back in the AL Central division and 1.5 games back in the Wild Card hunt.... Continue Reading »

Bullpen finally shows up to give Twins series win over Rockies

The three-game series with the Colorado Rockies put the Twins’ spit and baling wire bullpen under the microscope, and the results are still a work in progress. The bullpen coughed up multiple runs on Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday Andrew Morris, Anthony Banda and Yoendrys Gomez — I think the Twins have found a... Continue Reading »

Twins race out to 7-0 lead, then hang on for 9-8 walk-off win over Rockies

After getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Twins came out Friday and wasted no time against the lowly Colorado Rockies by scoring two runs in the first inning, two runs in the second and three in the fifth to take a commanding seven-run lead. But then the Twins bullpen — who else? —... Continue Reading »

How did Byron Buxton celebrate his anniversary? With 3 hits, of course

Sunday was the anniversary of Byron Buxton’s major league debut for the Twins, and he celebrated — if one can say that — with three hits and a 5-4 win plus a series win over the St. Louis Cardinals. On June 14, 2015, Buck, the Twins’ second overall pick of the 2012 draft, joined the... Continue Reading »

Take it from the Twins: If you can’t pitch, hit

The Twins went toe-to-toe with the St. Louis Cardinals at Target Field Friday night and finally outslugged the Red Birds for a 9-8 win in Game 1 of their weekend series. Consistently winning by outslugging your opponent isn’t a proven winning strategy unless, of course, you’re the 1927 New York Yankees, but even that team... Continue Reading »

Here’s a change of pace: Twins bullpen pitches well in win over Tigers

It was a bullpen day on the mound for the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday and, believe it or not, they stood tall and limited the damage to four runs in a 6-4 win over the Detroit Tigers. Most impressively six relievers combined to strike out 14 Tigers. Veteran Taylor Rogers picked up the win and... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
