Twins can’t sweep Guards, but it’s still 4 straight series wins

The Twins ran into a tough customer on Thursday in the form of pitcher Gavin Williams, who is one of the best in the biz. He fanned 11 batters over seven innings — the Guardians had 14 total strikeouts — and that shut down the Twins offense en route to a 5-2 Cleveland win over... Continue Reading »

‘Nothing comes easy for this Twins bullpen’

“Nothing comes easy for this Twins bullpen,” said Twins radio play-by-play man Kris Atteberry late in Monday’s Twins/Astros tilt in Houston. You can say that again. The Twins cruised into the eighth inning with a 5-1 lead, courtesy of three dingers and seven innings of strong starting pitching, and then the ball was handed off... Continue Reading »

Bullpen finally shows up to give Twins series win over Rockies

The three-game series with the Colorado Rockies put the Twins’ spit and baling wire bullpen under the microscope, and the results are still a work in progress. The bullpen coughed up multiple runs on Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday Andrew Morris, Anthony Banda and Yoendrys Gomez — I think the Twins have found a... Continue Reading »

Twins win big, rout Diamondbacks 16-8

Byron Buxton hit a grand slam in the Twins’ runaway win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, but it was the bottom of the order that really put on a show. The six through nine hitters: Brooks Lee, Victor Caratini, Luke Keaschall and Ryan Kreidler were a combined  13-for-21 (.619) with 11 runs scored and... Continue Reading »

How did Byron Buxton celebrate his anniversary? With 3 hits, of course

Sunday was the anniversary of Byron Buxton’s major league debut for the Twins, and he celebrated — if one can say that — with three hits and a 5-4 win plus a series win over the St. Louis Cardinals. On June 14, 2015, Buck, the Twins’ second overall pick of the 2012 draft, joined the... Continue Reading »

Take it from the Twins: If you can’t pitch, hit

The Twins went toe-to-toe with the St. Louis Cardinals at Target Field Friday night and finally outslugged the Red Birds for a 9-8 win in Game 1 of their weekend series. Consistently winning by outslugging your opponent isn’t a proven winning strategy unless, of course, you’re the 1927 New York Yankees, but even that team... Continue Reading »

Error-less baseball sure helps, Twins win 5-3

A day after the Twins committed some embarrassing errors in an 8-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals, the team bounced back on Friday with some strong defensive play from the outfield and a quality start from Daniel Zebulon Matthews to edge the Royals, 5-3. It appeared that Zebby was on his way to an... Continue Reading »

Twins hang on for series win over Chicago White Sox

The White Sox won a series over the Twins last week and now the Twins have done the same this week, winning the first two of three games against the Munetaka Murakami-less South Siders with a chance to earn the sweep on Wednesday. It also was redemption for Twins starting pitcher Connor Prielipp who previously... Continue Reading »

Back and forth game vs. Red Sox finally goes to the Twins

An inexperienced battery of rookie pitcher Connor Prielipp and new catcher Alex Jackson put the Twins in an early hole, but the offense flexed its muscles and the bullpen stepped up for an eventual 8-6 win over the Boston Red Sox on Friday. The Game 1 win was the first of a 10-game road trip... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
