Twins win big, rout Diamondbacks 16-8

Byron Buxton hit a grand slam in the Twins’ runaway win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, but it was the bottom of the order that really put on a show. The six through nine hitters: Brooks Lee, Victor Caratini, Luke Keaschall and Ryan Kreidler were a combined  13-for-21 (.619) with 11 runs scored and... Continue Reading »

Take it from the Twins: If you can’t pitch, hit

The Twins went toe-to-toe with the St. Louis Cardinals at Target Field Friday night and finally outslugged the Red Birds for a 9-8 win in Game 1 of their weekend series. Consistently winning by outslugging your opponent isn’t a proven winning strategy unless, of course, you’re the 1927 New York Yankees, but even that team... Continue Reading »

Error-less baseball sure helps, Twins win 5-3

A day after the Twins committed some embarrassing errors in an 8-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals, the team bounced back on Friday with some strong defensive play from the outfield and a quality start from Daniel Zebulon Matthews to edge the Royals, 5-3. It appeared that Zebby was on his way to an... Continue Reading »

Twins even series with Pale Hose after extra-innings win

The Twins scored early, the Chicago White Sox scored late to tie the game, and then both teams played two frames of nail-biting baseball in extra innings on Tuesday. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Twins’ veteran lefty reliever Taylor Rogers struck out a batter, served up a single and then induced a short... Continue Reading »

Twins sweep Sox at Fenway for 1st time in 32 years. Hard to believe

Ladies and gentleman, your 2026 Minnesota Twins: competent starting pitching, an improving young lineup and a spit and baling wire bullpen that apparently relishes the high-wire act. All of that and more was on display Sunday as the Twins battled back and forth (again) with the Boston Red Sox and finally held on for a... Continue Reading »

With Buxton out, the Twins aren’t much, are they?

Byron Buxton remains day-to-day with right hip soreness, and it really shows because the Twins have clearly missed his spark in back-to-back one-run losses to the Milwaukee Brewers. Despite terrific starting pitching in both games, the offense was not equal to the task as the Twins lost 3-2 on Friday and 2-1 Saturday. The one... Continue Reading »

Twins finally break through against Guards on the road

The Twins bullpen held on for a 2-1 win Saturday and then they did it all over again 5-4 on Sunday to give the team its first series win at Cleveland in nearly three years. The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the 3rd inning and then the Twins went to work in the... Continue Reading »

Guess what? The Twins have another 1-run win

I woke up Saturday morning and nearly spat out my coffee after I learned that Twins starting pitcher Taj Bradley — by far the team’s best pitcher in the early going — had landed on the 15-day injured list. All you can do is laugh is what I intended to write this evening because the... Continue Reading »

Best win of the season? Senators rout Nats 11-3

The original Washington Senators returned to their old stomping grounds on Tuesday and put it all together. They got a balanced attack from the lineup, starting pitcher Taj Bradley made another quality start and the Big Bopper, Byron Buxton, slammed a three-run homer to run away from the Washington Nationals 11-3. The Senators cranked out... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
