Twins eye 7th straight series win on Sunday
A chance at a seventh straight series win is still intact after the Twins held on for a 4-2 win Saturday after losing to the San Francisco Giants on Friday. What a difference a little more clutch hitting will do for a team. In Saturday’s win, the Twins banged out 10 hits and edged the... Continue Reading »

Twins split doubleheader, but still earn series win over White Sox
It wasn’t a sweep, but the Twins still picked up their sixth straight series win by taking two of three games from the woeful Chicago White Sox, the worst team in baseball. The Twins won the first game, the second game was postponed due to rain, and then the two teams regrouped Wednesday to play... Continue Reading »

Twins take series from Astros, face terrible White Sox Monday
The Twins’ Christian Vazquez has underwhelmed at the plate all season, but on Sunday, in the rubber match against the Houston Astros, it was the Vazquez show as he drove in all three runs for the Twins, including the walk-off dinger in the ninth that won it for Minnesota 3-2. The team banged out 11... Continue Reading »

Twins still hitting, pitching improves to even series vs. ‘Stros
The Twins keep hitting and scoring runs, but this time the pitching showed up allowing Minnesota to run away from the Houston Astros 9-3 on Saturday. Every Twins player in the lineup contributed to the 14-hit attack. Willi Castro had three hits and Max Kepler and Byron Buxton had two hits apiece. But once again... Continue Reading »

Twins’ Miranda stays hot, Astros even hotter (sort of)
It appeared the rout was official after the Houston Astros took a 13-5 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning at Target Field on Friday. But then the Twins staged the mother of all rallies by scoring seven runs, including a Carlos Correa grand slam off flame-throwing closer Josh Hader. That made it... Continue Reading »

At least there were fireworks after the game
Two Twins rookies had two completely different games on Wednesday. Starter David Festa struck out six batters with no walks over five innings. The only problem is he allowed seven runs on nine hits, including a solo home run, a two-run shot and a grand slam that ultimately handed the Detroit Tigers a 9-2 win.... Continue Reading »

Not sure the Twins’ Louie Varland is a starting pitcher
As much as I want to see Twins pitcher Louie Varland succeed in the big leagues, I’m just not sure he is suited to the role of starting pitcher after he lost again Monday night to the Baltimore Orioles, 7-4. Although he didn’t walk a single batter and struck out six, he still served up... Continue Reading »

Twins break camp at 9-19. Are you worried?
The Twins wrapped up Grapefruit League play with a 9-6 win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, which is fine as far that goes, but the overall poor play that produced a 9-19 record, plus a growing injury list, has this Twins fan in a glass-half-empty kind of mood as they get set to play... Tony Oliva, 1966
The final (for now) addition to my Twins baseball card collection is this 1967 card that shows the American League batting leaders for 1966: Frank Robinson, Tony Oliva and Al Kaline. Oliva would hit .307 that season and lead the AL with 191 hits. He got off to a red-hot start and by early May... Continue Reading »
