Bailed out by triple play, Twins go on to beat White Sox 6-3

Twins reliever Griffin Jax looked like he was in a whole mess of trouble after allowing the tying run with men still on base in Monday’s game against the Chicago White Sox. But Byron Buxton, who had homered earlier in the game to give the Twins a 2-1 lead, kicked off a major league first... Continue Reading »

The Twins have a bullpen problem

Twins’ lackluster play rolls on with 6-5 loss to Guardians

The team that dropped two of three games to the Arizona Diamondbacks returned home to Target Field Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the Twins played like they were still stuck in Phoenix. The Twins were 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position, struck out 15 times as a team and finally fell in 11 innings to the Cleveland... Continue Reading »

Twins look completely overmatched in series versus Dodgers

Boy, oh, boy, major league baseball teams are not created equal, are they? The big-money, big-talent Los Angeles Dodgers looked every bit the part in their short, two-game series with the Twins. The Twins are nothing to sneeze at this season as well, but after a 7-2 loss on Tuesday and an ugly 7-0 loss... Continue Reading »

The starters did their job, the bullpen did not in final tune up for Twins

The Twins’ starting lineup and starting pitching did just fine on Tuesday, cranking out five extra-base hits, including three home runs, and limited the Boston Red Sox to just one run through five innings. Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
