It’s about time the Twins’ Roden had a good game

Twins outfielder Alan Roden came into Wednesday’s rubber match with the Baltimore Orioles hitting .192, and I was about to start calling for his head if he had another poor showing at the plate. But those calls have been put on hold after Roden went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored, an RBI and... Continue Reading »

Ask and you shall receive: Twins win

As I said in my previous post, I urged the Twins to make hay against the Baltimore Orioles because they are about to face three good National League teams in the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres. Why is this so important? The Twins are 13-23 against the National League this season, according... Continue Reading »

Top prospect homers in debut, Twins win 8-6

After the Twins scored a grand total of seven runs across their previous three games, the Twins got back on track Friday with an eight-run outburst, courtesy of 13 hits, to edge the Milwaukee Brewers, the National League’s best team — by win-loss record, anyway — 8-6. The Twins fell behind early, but then reeled... Continue Reading »

Twins lose to Royals, Dobnak all over again. Ugh

Let’s give credit where credit is due: Twins ownership approved a plan to go out and get two relievers and a starting pitcher for the team’s stretch run, and now it’s up to Manager Derek Shelton and the players to deliver on that additional support. And right now that is not happening. The Twins lost... Continue Reading »

From 1 hit to walk-off grand slam. Twins are living right

Royce Lewis hit a walk-off triple to win Game 1 of the Twins’ three-game series against the Kansas City Royals, and Kody Clemens capped it with one of the biggest hits in Twins history, a bases loaded walk-off grand slam to give the Twins an unbelievable 4-3 win after they were flat out dead for... Twins routed again 13-4. ‘Make it make sense’

Perhaps Glen Perkins, a former Twins relief pitcher who was in the radio booth on Monday with broadcast partner Kris Atteberry, put it best as he tried to wrap his head around what was happening to the Twins in their Game 1 tilt against the Cleveland Guardians. “Make it make sense,” said Perkins on a... Happy birthday, USA. Twins rout Yanks, 11-4

It’s the best kind of Independence Day celebration for this fan because the Twins, a team that usually wilts when facing the New York Yankees, found its footing again on Saturday and showed off the American League’s best run-scoring offense by clobbering six home runs in an 11-4 rout of the Bronx Bombers at the... Can the Twins beat the Yankees? I say they can

It almost seems like a cruel joke that the gods would schedule the Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees as the country is about to turn 250 years old, but those are the facts as the Twins get set to take on their arch-rival over the weekend. But here are some more facts: Incredibly —... Continue Reading »

‘Nothing comes easy for this Twins bullpen’

“Nothing comes easy for this Twins bullpen,” said Twins radio play-by-play man Kris Atteberry late in Monday’s Twins/Astros tilt in Houston. You can say that again. The Twins cruised into the eighth inning with a 5-1 lead, courtesy of three dingers and seven innings of strong starting pitching, and then the ball was handed off... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
