Twins can’t sweep Guards, but it’s still 4 straight series wins

The Twins ran into a tough customer on Thursday in the form of pitcher Gavin Williams, who is one of the best in the biz. He fanned 11 batters over seven innings — the Guardians had 14 total strikeouts — and that shut down the Twins offense en route to a 5-2 Cleveland win over... Continue Reading »

Playing the Los Angeles Dodgers is stupid

Is there any point in playing the big-money, big-talent, big-everything Los Angeles Dodgers when the outcome seems preordained? I imagine a lot of mid-market major league teams feel this way, and no doubt the Twins are among them after they returned home and lost by a run on Monday and then were blown out by... Twins win big, rout Diamondbacks 16-8

Byron Buxton hit a grand slam in the Twins’ runaway win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, but it was the bottom of the order that really put on a show. The six through nine hitters: Brooks Lee, Victor Caratini, Luke Keaschall and Ryan Kreidler were a combined  13-for-21 (.619) with 11 runs scored and... Continue Reading »

Sometimes you can outslug your opponent, and sometimes you can’t

The power show rolled into Saturday for these Minnesota Twins as Byron Buxton, Royce Lewis and Luke Keaschall all went deep with a home run apiece. Error-less baseball sure helps, Twins win 5-3

A day after the Twins committed some embarrassing errors in an 8-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals, the team bounced back on Friday with some strong defensive play from the outfield and a quality start from Daniel Zebulon Matthews to edge the Royals, 5-3. It appeared that Zebby was on his way to an... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
