Twins trade shutouts with A’s

After the worst loss of the season on Friday, an anemic, two-hit effort against the West Sacramento A’s (or whatever you want to call them) — a team that has allowed an AL-worst 582 runs — the Twins bounced back with a 2-0 shutout win of their own on Saturday. Although the Twins now have... Continue Reading »

Twins can’t sweep Guards, but it’s still 4 straight series wins

The Twins ran into a tough customer on Thursday in the form of pitcher Gavin Williams, who is one of the best in the biz. He fanned 11 batters over seven innings — the Guardians had 14 total strikeouts — and that shut down the Twins offense en route to a 5-2 Cleveland win over... Continue Reading »

Twins win again. Can they do it?

The Twins won again on Tuesday, getting a 3-1 victory at home over the never-easy-to-beat Cleveland Guardians. That’s three wins in a row for Minnesota. They also are 7-3 in their last three games, two games under .500, three games back in the AL Central division and 1.5 games back in the Wild Card hunt.... Continue Reading »

Playing the Los Angeles Dodgers is stupid

Is there any point in playing the big-money, big-talent, big-everything Los Angeles Dodgers when the outcome seems preordained? I imagine a lot of mid-market major league teams feel this way, and no doubt the Twins are among them after they returned home and lost by a run on Monday and then were blown out by... Twins hang on for series win over Chicago White Sox

The White Sox won a series over the Twins last week and now the Twins have done the same this week, winning the first two of three games against the Munetaka Murakami-less South Siders with a chance to earn the sweep on Wednesday. It also was redemption for Twins starting pitcher Connor Prielipp who previously... Continue Reading »

Remember the sweep of the Boston Red Sox?

The top dog in the American League Central used to run through Cleveland or Detroit, but now it just might be Chicago after the White Sox took three of four games from the Twins with relative ease, including Thursday’s lackluster game, 6-2. All of which has quickly reduced the memory of the Twins’ first sweep... Continue Reading »

For the Twins, a victory that doesn’t get much sweeter. Here’s why

Telling the schoolyard bully to shove it with a 4-2 win seems pretty sweet to me. And that’s exactly what happened to the Twins on Saturday as the “bully” emerged in the form of the Boston Red Sox’s Wilson Contreras. Wilson knocked over Kody Clemens with a head-first slide into first base, then appeared to... Continue Reading »

Twins take series after flurry of moves. But what about Simeon?

Daniel Zebulon Matthews, better known as Zebby, made the most of his callup on Thursday as he tossed seven shutout innings to help the Twins win the rubber match 9-1 and the series over the Miami Marlins. Matthews wasn’t the only callup to lift the Twins. Ryan Kreidler also got the nod and delivered two... Continue Reading »

Twins finally break through against Guards on the road

The Twins bullpen held on for a 2-1 win Saturday and then they did it all over again 5-4 on Sunday to give the team its first series win at Cleveland in nearly three years. The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the 3rd inning and then the Twins went to work in the... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
