The day a Twins/ White Sox game was decided by a walk-off walk

You never know when you’re going to have a Minnesota Twins moment. There I was watching You Tube when an old WGN White Sox/ Twins broadcast popped up in my feed. The game? Oct. 3, 1981, the second to last contest of the strike-interrupted season in which Minnesota wrapped things up at Comiskey Park. The... Continue Reading »

Twins finally shake off early deficit to snap 3-game slide

This time the Twins were ready. After succumbing to early deficits in losses to the Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, the Twins finally rallied from an early hole to even their series at a game apiece with the Blue Jays after a 7-5 win on Tuesday. Again, Tuesday’s tilt did not get off... Continue Reading »

The week Fernando pitched back to back complete games against the Twins

It crossed my mind, I looked it up and there it was: Fernando Valenzuela, who died last week at the much too young age of 63, faced the Twins twice in his 17-year career and beat them both times, getting complete game victories on July 18, 1993, and again on July 23 at the Metrodome.... Twins collapse late, drop series to Royals

Twins starter Bailey Ober had struggled against the Royals this season, but on Saturday he mastered the team from Kansas City, allowing just a hit across seven innings with seven strikeouts. If only the bullpen and defense had been just as good. Ober exited stage left after seven innings and was followed by closer Jhoan... Continue Reading »

Wurst alert: Twins lose, winning streak ends at 12 games

The Twins’ longest winning streak since 1991 came to an end Sunday after the club reverted to its beginning-of-the-season form in which they struggled mightily with their clutch hitting. In this case, they were 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Making things even more difficult is that the bullpen... Continue Reading »

Job No. 1 accomplished as Twins take series from Texas

The Twins bounced back with authority following the sweep in Milwaukee by taking three of four games from the Texas Rangers, one of the best teams in the American League, including Sunday’s 7-6 win in 13 innings. It wasn’t always pretty — both teams were a combined 4-for-34 with runners in scoring position and stranded... Continue Reading »

Here’s a change of pace: An off-the-field injury for the Twins

It has been well-documented that the Twins had an inordinate amount of player injuries last year, all of which contributed to an underwhelming season and a third-place finish. But at least those injuries involved the game of baseball, either running, throwing or fielding the ball from what I recall. Yet here we are on the... Continue Reading »

Winding down the Twins’ season with ugly series loss to Tigers

The Twins assured themselves of back-to-back losing seasons on Sunday after they lost 5-2 to the 93-loss Detroit Tigers. They also lost Saturday to hand Motown the series win. The Twins fell to 77-82 on the season, and with three games to go to wrap up the 2022 campaign, the Twins can do no better... Continue Reading »

Twins lose to Guardians 7-6 after bullpen blows 3-run lead

Any takers out there for reliever Emilio Pagan? I have this vision that the front office tandem of Derek Falvey and Thad Levine, otherwise known as Falvey & Co on this blog, were busy working the phones after the Twins’ terrible loss in Cleveland Wednesday night, trying their best to shore up some holes in... Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
