Sometimes you can outslug your opponent, and sometimes you can’t

The power show rolled into Saturday for these Minnesota Twins as Byron Buxton, Royce Lewis and Luke Keaschall all went deep with a home run apiece. But even a run-scoring team like the Twins, which came into Saturday’s contest having scored the third-most runs in the American League, needs some decent pitching now and then.... Twins hang on for series win over Chicago White Sox

The White Sox won a series over the Twins last week and now the Twins have done the same this week, winning the first two of three games against the Munetaka Murakami-less South Siders with a chance to earn the sweep on Wednesday. It also was redemption for Twins starting pitcher Connor Prielipp who previously... Continue Reading »

Furious rally falls short as Twins lose again

Bailey Ober and the Twins dug themselves a very early and deep hole on Saturday, but the American League’s third-best offense rallied to tie the game at 7-7, only to give up three more runs. They never fully recovered after that and fell 10-9 to the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Twins’ fourth straight loss. It’s also... Continue Reading »

Twins salvage a win. Can they make it 4 in a row?

The Twins turned the tables on their next door neighbor, the Milwaukee Brewers, on Sunday and emerged with a one-run, 5-4 victory, in the finale of their weekend series. Now, can they make it four wins in a row? The injury-riddled Houston Astros, a team that seems ripe for the picking to me, limp into... Continue Reading »

Twins bullpen walks tightrope, but doesn’t fall off

After the nightmare scenario that unfolded on Saturday, the Twins bullpen got its act together and gave the team eight-plus innings of relief and held on at the end to secure the 4-3 win and a split of the four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Why more than eight innings? Starter Joe Ryan gestured... Continue Reading »

Twins extend Mets’ losing streak to 12 games

The Twins ended their losing streak on Tuesday after they rallied for a 5-3 win over the New York Mets, sending the Metropolitans, a team with a $370 million payroll, to their 12th straight loss and more misery. Early on it appeared the Mets were on the verge of history, not because of the losing... Continue Reading »

Abel, Buxton brilliant as Twins win another series. You read that correctly

A sweep of the Detroit Tigers, a series win over the Toronto Blue Jays and a second series win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday has the Twins at 11-7 and atop the AL Central, a game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians. What’s next for this Twins team? A season sweep of the New... Continue Reading »

Twins’ Bradley bests defending Cy Young winner Skubal. Really

The Detroit Tigers’ Tarik Skubal may have won back-to-back Cy Young awards, but it was the Twins’ Taj Bradley who appeared to deserve the honor in Minnesota’s 4-2 win over Motown on Tuesday. Bradley was brilliant as he struck out 10 across six-plus innings, allowing just a run and no walks in the 104-pitch effort.... Continue Reading »

Offense returns as Twins top Tigers. It was more interesting than it sounds

Despite another frigid night in downtown Minneapolis, the Twins’ offense finally warmed up and banged out 10 hits in a 7-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Monday. Although a win, it’s not as convincing as it sounds because the Twins were 5-for-16 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 on base, including multiple... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
