We hardly knew ye, Pete Maki

Sometimes life just isn’t fair, is it? That’s my reaction to the news that Twins pitching coach Pete Maki was fired on Monday, which was the last thing I expected after the Twins beat back the negative projections heading into the 2026 season and largely overachieved and even contended at one point for a wild... Twins race out to 7-0 lead, then hang on for 9-8 walk-off win over Rockies

After getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Twins came out Friday and wasted no time against the lowly Colorado Rockies by scoring two runs in the first inning, two runs in the second and three in the fifth to take a commanding seven-run lead. But then the Twins bullpen — who else? —... Continue Reading »

Twins extend Mets’ losing streak to 12 games

The Twins ended their losing streak on Tuesday after they rallied for a 5-3 win over the New York Mets, sending the Metropolitans, a team with a $370 million payroll, to their 12th straight loss and more misery. Early on it appeared the Mets were on the verge of history, not because of the losing... Continue Reading »

Abel, Buxton brilliant as Twins win another series. You read that correctly

A sweep of the Detroit Tigers, a series win over the Toronto Blue Jays and a second series win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday has the Twins at 11-7 and atop the AL Central, a game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians. What’s next for this Twins team? A season sweep of the New... Continue Reading »

Bell, Lee help Twins to 4-game sweep of Tigers

After dropping two of three games to the Tampa Bay Rays, the Twins reasserted themselves with a four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers, including Thursday’s 3-1 victory. Josh Bell smacked a solo home run — one of three hits on the day for him — and Brooks Lee finally rose to the occasion with a... Continue Reading »

Some baseball games are too cold to be played. Even in Minnesota

We were among the 15,256 freezing fans who attended Target Field on Saturday night, all of us bundled up to watch a lackluster effort from the Twins as they lost 7-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays. In all honesty, I’m not sure how anyone scored at all, or swung the bat or threw the ball... Continue Reading »

Twins lose a mess of a game to Orioles, 8-6

The Sunday positives: Six runs on 12 hits, including extra-base hits from Josh Bell and Royce Lewis, as well as two hits apiece from Victor Caratini, Trevor Larnach and Tristan Gray. The Sunday negatives: Sub-par pitching, missed opportunities (10 left on base), lousy base-running and plenty of ABS-generated controversy which finally resulted in Twins Manager... There it is: Twins’ Mick Abel allows first earned runs this spring

Portland, Oregon’s Mick Abel, who hadn’t allowed an earned run coming into Friday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays, finally got touched up in the 6-1 loss to the Jays. Still, Abel, a former first-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies who came to Minnesota last season in exchange for closer Jhoan Duran, has pitched well... Continue Reading »

Twins blast Yankees. No matter the season, I’ll take it

I don’t care if it’s a pick-up game, a softball game, or some kind of private exhibition at either Yankee Stadium or Target Field. Anytime the Twins can run up the score on the New York Yankees is cause for celebration. So break out the party hats and funny whistles because on Thursday the Twins... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
