After Braves’ sweep, Twins respond with series win at Baltimore

The Twins lost on Sunday to the Baltimore Orioles, but the overall message should be this: They took two of three games from one of the better teams in baseball after one of the best — perhaps the best team in baseball, the Atlanta Braves — dispatched them with ease. The Twins responded with a... Continue Reading »

Payback: Twins get series win over Tigers

The Twins won 6-3 in 10 innings on Sunday to take two of three games from the Detroit Tigers in their house, which seems perfectly appropriate after the Tigers did the same to the Twins at Target Field earlier this month.   The Twins tied the game late, then scored three runs in the top... Here comes the rooster: Twins walk-off Brewers, 7-5

After the Twins’ Joey Gallo struck out looking with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning, it appeared the Brewers were well on their way to a 5-3 win in Game 1 of the short two-game series between the two teams. But in the bottom of the ninth, Michael A. Taylor hit... Continue Reading »

No team in the AL Central has a winning record

The Twins have been playing like a .500 baseball team and now it’s official, the club falling to 31-31 on Wednesday after a heart-breaking walk-off loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, 2-1. Two solo home runs were the difference. The first was allowed by starter Pablo Lopez, who otherwise pitched well and made another quality... Continue Reading »

The kids were alright on Saturday as Eddie Julien, Matt Wallner and Alex Kirilloff accounted for nine of the Twins’ 14 hits, helping to power the club to a 9-7 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. One veteran, Willi Castro, did get into the act with a two home run day, but it was the... Continue Reading »

Twins drop another series as team can’t score, bullpen doesn’t help

The Twins wrapped up their West Coast road trip with a losing record after they dropped both series to the Dodgers and Angels, including Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the Halos. And once again a familiar pattern reared its head for the Twins: Great starting pitching, terrible situational hitting (the Twins again could not score with... Continue Reading »

Twins drop series to Dodgers after bullpen collapses in 5-run 7th

The Twins fought hard against the Dodgers, losing a nailbiter 9-8 in extra innings and beating Clayton Kershaw for a 5-1 win, but finally they could not take the series after the Twins’ 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning Wednesday unraveled in the worst possible way for a 7-3 loss. A lot... Continue Reading »

Here comes the rooster: Twins rally for 4-3 walk-off win over Padres

After the San Diego Padres pulled off a textbook suicide squeeze play in the top of the 10th inning Wednesday night, it appeared the Twins were dead and buried for sure going into the home half of the inning, now losing 3-2. Not only were they down a run, they also had to contend with... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
