For the Twins, a shrewd deal to retain Buxton and a head-scratcher for pitcher Bundy

The Twins front office showed off some excellent negotiating skills to retain and extend outfielder Byron Buxton, keeping the brilliant but often injured Buxton in Minnesota on a seven-year, $100 million deal. Frankly, it’s a steal of a deal for the Twins who agreed to a number of incentives on paper that could pay Buxton... Continue Reading »

Twins blanked by Cubs. Blah.

After a difficult series against the Chicago White Sox, I was hoping the Twins would find their true form Friday night and blast a few home runs out of Wrigley Field for a convincing Game 1 win in their series with the Chicago Cubs. But that was not to be. The Cubs scored a run... Continue Reading »

Twins win series, seek sweep of Tribe on Sunday

In 2019, the Twins earned the nickname “Bomba Squad” for the record-setting number of home runs they hit. The Bomba Squad is still intact this season, but hasn’t quite lit up the scoreboard like they did last season. That all changed Saturday, however, after the Twins hit five home runs to blow open a close... Continue Reading »

Twins rally, then collapse in 10-8 loss to Tigers

The Twins rallied from an early deficit on Sunday, then watched as the Detroit Tigers scored eight runs late to beat the Twins, 10-8. The loss ended the Twins’ five-game winning streak and also dropped them lower in the standings after the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians both won on Sunday. The Twins are... The Twins are in trouble, folks

For the Twins rotation, bullpen and offense, it goes something like this: not enough innings pitched, too many innings pitched and hits and runs in bits, but not enough overall to win. That combination played out Monday night and resulted in an 8-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox, the Twins’ sixth straight. The South... Continue Reading »

Bullpen blows it after Twins get to Bieber

Cleveland Indians ace Shane Bieber struck out 10 batters on Tuesday, but he also allowed four hits and three walks, and that was enough for the Twins to score two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. That lead would hold up for four innings, then Twins reliever Jorge... Continue Reading »

Remember Tuesday’s brilliant pitching? That didn’t happen Wednesday as Twins lose big to Brewers

Ex-Dodger Rich Hill looked every bit like a 40-year-old pitcher and the bullpen was just as bad as the Brewers scored early and often to beat the Twins, 9-3, on Wednesday. Hill got into trouble right away, lasting all of two-plus innings. He allowed four runs, all earned, on 53 pitches. He also walked three... Continue Reading »

The Twins’ first losing streak of the season is here

A six-game win streak came to an end on Thursday and the losing continued Friday after the Twins mostly lined out, grounded out and flied out to the Kansas City Royals. The final was 3-2, Royals. The only bright spot in Friday’s game was Byron Buxton, who homered in his second consecutive game and suddenly... Continue Reading »

Twins, punchless at first, rally to tie game and then walk it off, 5-4

It appeared early in Monday’s game that the Pittsburgh Pirates, despite a 2-7 start, were going to stifle the Twins with stingy pitching and exit with a 4-0 win. But in the bottom of the sixth, the Twins scored four runs to tie the game, and then Nelson Cruz ended it in the bottom of... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
