It wasn’t 7-0, but 6-1 ain’t bad

The Twins shook off a terrible loss to the lowly Kansas City Royals on Tuesday and scored eight runs on 15 hits to beat them 8-5 on Wednesday. The Twins won the series and are now 6-1 on their 11-game home stand. The Tampa Bay Rays arrive Thursday for a four-game set. Lance Lynn improved... Continue Reading »

Has Kyle Gibson finally turned a corner?

A strong second half in 2017, a strong spring training this year, and falling short of his salary demands during arbitration just might make Kyle Gibson hungry enough to put his largely .500 career behind him and win more consistently. The Twins, who drafted him in the first round of the 2009 amateur daft, have... Continue Reading »

Attention Cleveland: Here come the Twins

Nine months ago, the Twins, mired in a mid-season slump, traded pitcher Jaime Garcia in exchange for prospects, a move that many regarded as a sign that Falvey & Co. wanted to build for the future, rather than win now. Despite the move, the Twins finished strong down the stretch and secured their first post-season... Continue Reading »

Do the Twins need more pitching? Yes, they do

After the busy offseason the Twins had, it might come as a surprise to think that the Twins would entertain more starting pitcher now that Anibal Sanchez, Jake Odorizzi and Michael Pineda are in the house. Pineda is still working his way back from Tommy John surgery, while Odorizzi has a job. Odorizzi improved to... Continue Reading »

The Twins lost two of three games to the Rays to fall to 26-20 on the season, but they’re still atop the American League Central... Continue Reading »

The day Brian Dozier didn’t face Jose De Leon

It must have been an unusual day at the ballpark for Twins second baseman Brian Dozier. He wasn’t in the lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday, but probably was in the dugout, sitting and wondering what might have been. That’s because the Twins faced Rays starter Jose De Leon. If that name sounds... Continue Reading »

If the Twins still want pitcher Jose De Leon, they’ll have to call the Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays on Monday traded a second baseman to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for a top-ranked pitching prospect. If this deal sounds familiar that’s because the Twins had pursued something similar with the Dodgers. But it’s now clear that the Dodgers were only interested in a 1-for-1 swap for pitcher Jose... Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
