New additions help Twins take series from Tigers

The Twins got a series win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, getting key contributions from three new faces: catcher Sandy Leon, who drove in two runs and had the only extra-base hit for the Twins, and relievers Michael Fulmer and Jorge Lopez. Fulmer pitched a scoreless sixth inning and Lopez locked down his 20th... Continue Reading »

Twins hit 5 home runs and still lose 10-7 to Yanks

So it really is hopeless after all, isn’t it? It appeared the Twins had finally turned a corner against the New York Yankees, smashing five home runs early in Thursday’s game to chase former 16-game winner, Gerrit Cole, after two-plus innings. Luis Arraez connected, Byron Buxton hit two deep shots off Cole, Carlos Correa added... Continue Reading »

Well, what do you know? Twins trounce Yanks 8-1

So it really isn’t hopeless after all, is it? Twins pitching limited the New York Yankees to four hits and the offense did the rest, banging out 11 hits, including three doubles and two home runs, to pace the Twins to an easy 8-1 win on Wednesday. The Twins scored two runs in the fourth... Continue Reading »

Twins’ Archer underwhelms again in 7-3 loss to Royals

Twins starting pitcher Chris Archer hasn’t exactly been terrible this season — he has an earned run average slightly above 4.00 after nine starts — but he also hasn’t been very good. And he made another underwhelming appearance on Saturday in a 7-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals. Archer has struggled to go deep... Continue Reading »

Twins bounce back, get not-so convincing 10-7 win

The Twins appeared more than ready to run away from the Royals on Friday night, but the pesky club from Kansas City hung around and made things interesting right to the very end. The Twins scored four runs in the first, the Royals came back to tie the game, then the Twins took another lead... Continue Reading »

Twins get back to winning, edge A’s 2-1

A lot has happened to the Minnesota Twins in the past 48 hours. Manager Rocco Baldelli, infielder Luis Arraez and pitcher Dylan Bundy have been sidelined by COVID-19, the $100 million man Carlos Correa is day-to-day with finger soreness after he was hit by a pitch, and in his place the team called up shortstop... Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
