We hardly knew ye, Pete Maki

Sometimes life just isn’t fair, is it? That’s my reaction to the news that Twins pitching coach Pete Maki was fired on Monday, which was the last thing I expected after the Twins beat back the negative projections heading into the 2026 season and largely overachieved and even contended at one point for a wild... Twins end 2026 season on winning note. Now what?

The Twins won their final series of the 2026 season over the Texas Rangers, including a 6-4 win on Sunday. The Twins wrap things up with a 77-85 record, good enough for third place in the American League Central. Was it a good season? In many ways, yes. After the Twins traded away all of... 7 games under .500? The Twins have been here before

A week ago the Minnesota Twins lost 7-4 to the Chicago White Sox at home to drop them seven games under .500 at 64-71. A week later and they haven’t gained any ground in the division because they lost that series to the South Siders, failed to sweep the Detroit Tigers and lost again to... Continue Reading »

Twins’ Matthews perfect in August with 5-1 win over Chisox

The Twins avoided being swept at home on Sunday, getting eight-plus strong innings from starter Daniel Zebulon Matthews to beat the Chicago White Sox 5-1. It was a good win for Matthews, and he finishes August with an unblemished 5-0 record, but overall it was a hugely disappointing series because the Twins did little to... Continue Reading »

What the doctor ordered: The Athletics

Despite a late-in-the-game rally, the Twins got exactly what they needed on Monday, a convincing 9-6 win over the Oakland/West Sacramento/Las Vegas A’s to snap a three-game losing streak. And every player got into the act with at least one hit. Leading the way were Byron Buxton and rookie Kaelen Culpepper. Buck had a 3-for-5... Continue Reading »

Forget the Phillies: Twins bounce back with series win over Braves

After a terrible sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies, the Twins have shaken off their National League struggles with a series win over the Atlanta Braves, including Tuesday’s 4-1 win. The American League is so bunched up that with those two wins, the Twins now find themselves in second place in the AL... Continue Reading »

It’s about time the Twins’ Roden had a good game

Twins outfielder Alan Roden came into Wednesday’s rubber match with the Baltimore Orioles hitting .192, and I was about to start calling for his head if he had another poor showing at the plate. But those calls have been put on hold after Roden went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored, an RBI and... Continue Reading »

Top prospect homers in debut, Twins win 8-6

After the Twins scored a grand total of seven runs across their previous three games, the Twins got back on track Friday with an eight-run outburst, courtesy of 13 hits, to edge the Milwaukee Brewers, the National League’s best team — by win-loss record, anyway — 8-6. The Twins fell behind early, but then reeled... Continue Reading »

Twins can’t escape first-inning curse, drop series to M’s

The Twins showed a lot of fight in their series loss to the M’s, but asking them to come from behind in every game is a tall order. They pulled it off on Friday — their only win in the series — and came up short in the next two games, both back-to-back walk-off losses,... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
