The Twins lost the game, they lost the series and now they are 20 games under .500 after a 10-5 defeat to the Yankees on Wednesday.

The Twins have four games versus the Cleveland Guardians this weekend, including a doubleheader on Saturday, and then it’s three games at Texas and three more at Philadelphia to wrap up an extremely disappointing 2025 season.
Toward the beginning of the season, I quoted a prognosticator who thought the Twins would finish last in the AL Central, which at the time I thought was crazy talk. Well, they weren’t quite as bad as the Chicago White Sox, but they also weren’t much better.
Like a lot of recent games, the Twins were out of the running pretty quickly in Wednesday’s loss. The Yanks scored first, the Twins countered with two runs and then they served up six runs to Gotham and watched them pull away.
Twins starter Taj Bradley did not have a good outing. He allowed seven runs on eight hits, including two home runs, across just four innings with three walks and four strikeouts. He also uncorked a wild pitch and balked. His ERA stands at 5.20.
Three relievers followed him — Adams, Ohl and Fundy — and they made scoreless appearances, but Cole Sands, who has pitched to a 5.60 ERA over the last 15 games, served up a run, and then Genesis Cabrera, who has been terrible, allowed two more runs on three hits, including an additional dinger.
Pablo Lopez gets the ball Friday. If the Twins want to play spoiler, this would be the time to do it. The Guards have a lot to lose if this series with the Twins goes sideways on them.
Extra innings…
–The Twins are 66-86.
–Remember May’s 13-game winning streak? It is the second-longest winning streak of the 2025 season. The Twins have a losing record in every month but May.
–Still hitting: Brooks Lee had three hits and Austin Martin and Royce Lewis chipped in with two hits apiece.
–The Guardians shut out the Detroit Tigers 4-0 on Wednesday. They are now 80-71. Although they are 2.5 games back in the wild card race, perhaps more incredibly they are just 4.5 games back of the Tigers, who have led the division by a wide margin for most of the season.
–The Twins are 4-12 in September.
–What’s your win-loss prediction for the Twins over the final 10 games of the season? I say they go 2-8. They split the four-game series with the Guards and then are swept by the Rangers and Phillies.
