We hardly knew ye, Luis Arraez

Luis Arraez, the defending American League batting champion, is a 25-year-old infielder who has consistently hit near or better than .300 in his young career, a once in a generation talent who is most often compared to Hall of Famer Rod Carew, and a player who has more career walks than strikeouts — only 131... 2 Twins wins and a reminder of what might have been

The Twins have won the first two games of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox, reminding Twins fans everywhere that if this team had been any healthier and had not sent an AL-leading 31 players to the injured list, the fortunes of this club would have been completely different.   Need an example?... The collapse is complete: Twins swept by Royals

The Twins entered the series with a 12-4 record against the Royals, but emerge from it at 12-7 for the season. What... Continue Reading »

It’s over, Twins fans

A five-run rally and a Nick Gordon sacrifice fly kept the Twins in the game for 15 innings on Saturday, but the team finally was undone by an infield error, which handed the Cleveland Guardians a 7-6 win in the nightcap after the Guards beat them 5-1 earlier in the day. When did the season... Continue Reading »

Twins ‘walk the plank,’ lose 10-4 to Yankees

The Twins walked the plank all night, said radio play-by-play man Cory Provus during Tuesday’s game against the New York Yankees, underscoring the nine base on balls issued by Twins pitching. And the Yanks took full advantage, racing out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, then tacked on five runs late for a... Continue Reading »

The Twins fell to 4-1 on the season against the Oakland A’s on Tuesday after the Athletics pulled away in the seventh inning for a 5-2 win. Houston makes it look too easy in sweep of Twins

The Houston Astros swept a three-game series from the Minnesota Twins on Thursday, and if somebody told me that not a single Astros player broke out in a sweat during that series, or that manager Dusty Baker napped for 72 carefree hours, I’d believe them because they appeared to win with ease, like it was... Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
