Twins win 16th straight versus Orioles

The Twins finished 6-1 against the Baltimore Orioles in 2018, went 6-0 in 2019 and they are now 4-0 this season to make it 16 wins in a row over the Birds, including the Twins’ 3-2 victory on Monday in extra innings. The Twins continue to have success against the Orioles, although I wouldn’t call... Continue Reading »

Twins’ Baldelli will win AL Manager of the Year award, but he shouldn’t

Despite the record number of home runs, the number of runs scored, the number of team wins (second most in franchise history) and any number of things that Twins manager, Rocco Baldelli, did right this season, he does not deserve to be AL Manager of the Year. Oh, he’s going to win the award, of... Continue Reading »

Twins fall short to Yankees after epic, extra-innings slugfest

Tuesday’s Twins/Yankees game featured 35 hits and 26 runs, but when it was all over the Twins came up just short to the Yanks, losing 14-12 in 10 innings, despite loading the bases in the bottom of the 10th. In the bottom half of the inning, Max Kepler came to the plate and hit a... Continue Reading »

Twins split series with A’s after welcome, walk-off win

Good riddance to the pesky Oakland A’s.  The A’s and Twins fought like hell over this four-game series, and just when it looked like the Twins might finally get an easy win on Sunday, the A’s had other ideas. The Twins scored four runs early before the A’s added two in the top of the... Continue Reading »

There is redemption. Just ask the Twins’ Eddie Rosario.

After left fielder Eddie Rosario made a mess of a fly ball in the Twins’ 14-4 defeat at the hands of the New York Mets on Wednesday, Rosie found himself on the bench to start Thursday’s game against the Oakland A’s. But in the seventh inning, with the Twins down 3-1, Rosie pinch hit for... Continue Reading »

The Twins are for real, folks, but pitching could be a real problem, too

There’s a lot to like about the 2019 Minnesota Twins. The team is off to one of its best starts in years at 13-8 and they lead the American League in team batting average at .277. They also are second in on base percentage and third in runs scored, according to Baseball-Reference.com. Hot-hitting Eddie Rosario... Continue Reading »

It’s always good to see the Twins beat the Red Sox

The Twins ran all over the Boston Red Sox the other day to win 12-1 in exhibition play. The club scored 12 runs on 18 hits, getting multiple-hit performances out of several players: Jake Cave had three hits, Ronald Torreyes had three hits, 35-year-old Adam Rosales went 4-for-4 and Luke Raley drove in four runs... There are the Twins, and then there are those Tampa Bay Rays

Twins pitching scattered eight hits over nine innings the other day, seemingly enough quality pitching to earn any team a win. Adalberto Mejia and Fernando Romero were among those Twins pitchers who pitched scoreless baseball in that game. Yet the Twins didn’t get the victory. The Tampa Bay Rays, on the other hand, sent eight... Continue Reading »

I will not read too much into spring training, I will not read too much into spring training, I…

Twins baseball is back, and with it a win and a loss in split-squad action on Saturday. The Twins’ B-team lost to the Baltimore Orioles, but forget about that game for a moment because the A-team knocked off the Tampa Bay Rays with little trouble, or so it appears. Even better? Twins outfielder, Byron Buxton,... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
