The season is slip slidin’ away, Twins fans

It’s one thing to lose to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the best team in baseball; it’s quite another to lose to the team across town, a club that’s 23 games out of first place in the AL West. But that’s exactly what happened to the Twins. After an encouraging win Friday over the Angels, they... Continue Reading »

Despite the Twins’ monumental postseason failures, the future is bright. Really.

Amid the slow-moving train wreck that was the Twins’ Game 2 loss to the Houston Astros was this: Alex Kirilloff, a highly ranked prospect in the Twins organization, made his major league debut in that game and wasted no time in getting his first hit, a sharply lined single to right field. A right fielder... Continue Reading »

Better luck against the Royals, Twins

Perhaps the Twins can get back on track versus the Kansas City Royals, because they were no match for the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox appeared to take three of four games with ease, using left-handed pitching to limit hits and strike out a lot of batters. That was expected against Chris Sale and... Continue Reading »

Road warriors: Twins sweep Tribe to retake AL Central lead

Call it payback. After the Twins were swept at home by the Cleveland Indians last week, the Twins showed just how good a road team they are with their own three-game sweep of the Tribe. The Twins improved to 23-9 on the road and pulled one-half game ahead of the Indians in the American League... Continue Reading »

Twins put Red Sox debacle behind ’em, win 4 straight to regain AL Central lead

After the run-surrendering extravaganza against the Boston Red Sox last week, in which the Twins gave up 28 runs in two games, the club has come right back to win four straight, including two wins over the Cleveland Indians, the defending American League champions. And to top it off pitcher Jose Berrios, recalled from Triple-A... Continue Reading »

Kepler home runs back Berrios on busy, encouraging day for Twins

Rookie Max Kepler hit three home runs, top prospect Jose Berrios pitched six solid innings and the Twins banged out 19 hits en route to a 12-5 win over the AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians on Monday. And all of this capped a day of promising trades that saw the Twins deal pitchers Ricky Nolasco, Alex... Continue Reading »

Same as it ever was: Twins off to yet another slow start

Just when you thought it was safe to identify encouraging signs about the Twins during Spring Training, the regular season gets under way and nothing goes as it appears it should. First anthem of the 2016 season. pic.twitter.com/S7IRXRwvL9 — Phil Miller (@MillerStrib) April 4, 2016 That’s because the Twins, who won 19 games in March,... Continue Reading »

A State of the Union address for Twins fans

President Barack Obama delivered his final State of the Union address last week, reassuring Americans that the country remains in good shape, despite recent concerns about the economy and national security. The 2011 State of the Union address But this is a blog about one particular baseball team, so I ask: What’s the state of... Continue Reading »

Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
