Twins snap series losing slide with win over Daddies

Byron Buxton reached a new milestone, Joe Ryan got back on track and the Twins finally ended their five-team series losing streak with a 7-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Sunday. Buck hit his 29th home run to reach a new single-season high, but the real star of the show was starter Ryan... Continue Reading »

Twins finally shake off early deficit to snap 3-game slide

This time the Twins were ready. After succumbing to early deficits in losses to the Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, the Twins finally rallied from an early hole to even their series at a game apiece with the Blue Jays after a 7-5 win on Tuesday. Again, Tuesday’s tilt did not get off... Continue Reading »

2 new Twins pitchers struggle in their team debuts

The Twins got a firsthand look at two new pitching prospects over the weekend and things did not go well, resulting in a series loss to the Chicago White Sox. On Sunday, Taj Bradley, who came to the Twins in the deal that sent reliever Griffin Jax to the Tampa Bay Rays, got the ball... Continue Reading »

So much for moving up in the standings, Minnesota

To start the week, I wrote about how the Twins could easily move up in the standings by sweeping the Las Vegas Athletics (or whatever you want to call them) this week, followed by three more wins versus the Chicago White Sox this weekend. But so far none of that has gone to plan because... Continue Reading »

Friday’s Twins game? It was over before it really began

You know things have gone seriously awry when the two guys in the Twins radio booth are talking about their favorite TV shows as kids. Such was the case Friday. The Twins served up five runs in the first inning, coughed up two more in the third and were blanked by 41-year-old Detroit Tigers’ pitcher... Continue Reading »

It’s Twins/Yankees, folks. Need I say more?

The House of Horrors that is Yankee Stadium for the Minnesota Twins rolled on Monday as the Bronx Bombers hit three solo home runs, the Twins countered with two of their own and then the bullpen let it slip away for a 6-2 Yankees win. Despite being tagged with the loss, starting pitcher Daniel Zebulon... Continue Reading »

Who else? Kid Keaschall wins it for Twins in 11th

What can’t this rookie do? Three months removed from the game because of a broken forearm and yet Twins infielder Luke Keaschall continues to hit, drive in runs and now you can add “big moments” to his curriculum vitae after he hit a game-winning, walk-off blast in the bottom of the 11th inning on Sunday... Can one Twins player turn this season around?

I think it’s fair to say that Byron Buxton carried the Twins during the first half of the season, and now I’m ready to say it’s rookie Luke Keaschall’s turn to get this team back on track for a possible run at the final spot in the American League wild card race. And why not?... Continue Reading »

Kid Keaschall sparks Twins’ first series win in a month

Rookie Luke Keaschall made an immediate impact with the Twins at the beginning of the season, and he did it all over again for the club Tuesday and Wednesday, driving in six runs to help the team earn its first series win since they took two of three games from the Bucs about a month... Hi, I’m Rolf Boone, Twins fan.

I became a fan of the Minnesota Twins after a friendly wager in the early 1980s. I survived Ron Davis, the meltdown in Cleveland, Phil Bradley at the Kingdome and then marveled at a rising generation of stars and two World Series wins in 1987 and 1991. Brad Radke made the 1990s bearable, while Kirby Puckett’s eye injury, exit from the game and eventual death made it almost too much to bear. The new century ushered in more talent — Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau — and consecutive seasons of playoff baseball, followed by consecutive seasons of losing baseball. A winning season returned in 2015. So here we are. Go Twins.
